rear brake line help
Hey all,
I was going to install some stainless steel lines on the rear brakes of my SC last night (fronts are done), but i ran into something that concerned me. I noticed that the stainless steel lines are roughly 2-3 inches longer than the factory rubber lines. don't get me wrong, i could still install them, but i would have to have a little "S" shape in them. I've heard this is very normal, but i'm not so sure. any thoughts? Kyle. |

When I recently installed large Brembos on my SC, the steel brake lines were simply straight lines that I needed to bend into the correct shape, so you can put any bends you want into 'em, as long as you use a good tubing bender and they end up reaching form Point A to Point B. (Don't try to do it with your hands, you'll just kink them.)

i'm actually talking about the stainless steel lines that replace the stock rubber lines, not the hard lines. I replaced the front lines with the braided stainless steel lines recently. the replacement stainless lines are exactly the same length as the stock lines. so i assumed that i had done this correctly. I called my local Porsche shop and they said that often the replacement lines are longer than the stock lines, and not to worry about it. but i don't know what to think now.

as long as there is no oppertunity for them to kink you should be ok. the fronts are a bit longer though as peter notes, maybe you put the rears up front and now are left with WAY extra pipe in back?

O man, that kills me. I hope that's not the case.
I really don't want to go through all that work again. |

I think they come a little longer because they don't bend as much as the rubber lines. They are not as flexable.

Hold the phone, there may be light at the end of the tunnel. I think the shop where i got the lines from made a mistake. I picked up the front lines one week and the rears the following week. I think they actually gave me 2 sets of front lines.
I'm heading there today to find out. Kyle. |

Kyle,
Sounds like you are on the right track ... front and rear flex hoses AREN'T the same length, as the rears don't have to move as much!
