911 SC steering column cover issues

I am unable to screw in the side screws on the steering column shell. No matter what I do, the screw holes on the switches will not align enough with the holes on the shell to allow me to screw them in.

When I bought the car earlier this year, it was already like that (no screws in the sides). One of the tabs on the shell was broken so I assumed that was the reason. I bought a new shell OEM (very expensive plastic) hoping that would solve the problem, but to no avail.

To make the issue more confusing, when I replaced the stock steering wheel with Momo, the hub of the wheel is not flush with the steering column housing, causing the hub to scrape some on the plastic when the steering wheel turns.

If I had to guess at this point, it seems that the steering column tube could be somehow causing this, as that is what the shell and the turn signal switches mount to. If that piece is misaligned in some way, relative to the steering column shaft itself.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

How well do the holes line up without mounting it on the column?

@brianlay, when I fit the top and bottom pieces together without having it on the column, everything fits perfectly. the parts are brand new.

For anyone that cares: I solved the issue by bending the brackets slightly where the turn signal/wiper switch mount to the steering column tube. Somehow they had gotten out of whack at some point.

Regarding the left turns not canceling, the turn signal switch had one of its springs blocking the white tab from extending completely, fixed.

The column cover in my ‘83 is in great shape, but the screws seem to be missing and the cover is loose. I, too, have a Momo steering wheel installed by a previous owner, but the fitment is excellent. Any idea what size screws are used for the cover?

In case anyone refers to this post in the future, PelicanParts staff informed me that the part number for the steering column cover screw is 900-014-079-02 and size 3mm x 10mm.

I've had that issue a couple times too. It seems to me that one has to make sure the wiring is stuffed in correctly to allow the shells to mate easily.
