Please help! Alt. Shaft Pin Removal????

Hey all, in the middle of replacing my alternator...so far so good.

The good news is that I did not LOSE the shaft pin...the bad news is that I can't get it off the old alt. shaft! Any secrets?

If you are talking about the woodruff key, then the PO probably loctited it. Just heat it up and it should come right off.

Your new Alt should have come with a woodruff key, but heat and maybe a little force will get it out.

grab with sidecutters and lever it out, or use a hammer and punch inward on one end, which will roll it out of the slot enough to grab it better.

Thank you gents.

The new (rebuilt) alt. did not come with the woodruff key. I will try the heat and beat method.

Woodruff keys can get lodged as you pull an object off a shaft. If you are having trouble, push the object back on the shaft as it was, spray copious amounts of WD-40, and gently move the object off. Keep working it this way until the object slips the shaft.

John, whose TR4 crankshaft pulley finally had to be cut off the crankshaft!
