Maximum rear wheel width on non turbo fender conversion.

Looking at buying a g body that want to convert to a turbo body. Since the trailing arms in the rear do not stick out as much what is the widest rear wheels that can be run. I believe a 17/12

Thanks,

Larry

The tire is the the limiting factor most of the time as it extends beyond the wheel in most cases

maximum wheel backspace is ~6"

for an SC/Carrera maximum frontspace is ~4.5"

if you measure from the chassis to the inner lip it's ~10.5"

here's the clearance of a 9.5" ET 19 wheel w/ a 275/40x17 tire w/ tire f/s 4.8" and tire b/s 6.25", same wheel w/ a 255/40 has no clearance issues on either side

w/ this b/s the trailing arm hardware needs to be trimmed and the oil line on the passenger side needs to be relocated

That adds ~2" to the front space depending on the actual install details, doesn't affect backspace at all unless 930 suspension is involved

:)

Depending on rear tire size, you may need to fit replacement Oil Lines if you also run a front Oil Cooler......

The widest rear wheels that can be run on the rear of a g-body with 930 flares is 13" (total measured width) give or take depending on the rim diameter and tire size as well as the vehicle ride height. Note - advertised rim width is typically about 1" more narrow than total measured width as advertised width is measured bead-to-bead). So yes a 12" advertised width is about all you can use. The taller the tire the less room you have. The lower the car the less room you have. See Bill's comments on back spacing.

Here is an SC with 930 fenders and 12x15 wheels with 345/35-15 tires mounted. The section width of the tires was 13.5" and the height 24.5". Chassis at "Euro" ride height.

The same room is available for 930 but the back spacing is different. Here is a 930 with 12.75x17 wheels with 315/35-17 tires mounted. Section width 13.25" height 25.7" chassis Euro ride height.
