Porsche Crest Anyone looking for a 90 C2?

I received this lead from a rennlister...

1990 911 C2 160k Dark Blue, private owner on consignment at dealership $12,000 (not a typo, $12,000)

the wife wouldn't let me get a PPI on her, so I thought someone here should if they'd be interested...

the seller needs money ASAP...

here is some more info:

pristinemotorsports.com (it's not on their website) in California

Contact Dick Thorpe

Aye, that's the rub. It would cost about the same to rebuild or buy a replacement engine or transaxle for this car as it would for the more aesthetically desirable 993. Thus, the seemingly low price. Still, $12K is cheap for a car this new. Guess it depends on whether or not you like this year.

Sounds like a fair swap to me...Like: "do you have a gas cap for a YUGO?"

What I'm wondering (and it's killing me) is what is wrong, and if there isn't anything, why my wife won't let me buy it (I wouldn't keep it, just wrench and resell her)

You will find that Dick is very honest, and does a great job tuning cars.

That is a good price if she is a solid, well serviced, non wrecked car!
Now if I can get a buyer for this sweet 90 911 C4 Cab my buddy is selling! ha ha...$23,500 seems like a very good value with just 61k miles!

I've had this problem too, women never allow PPIs. I try to contact the previous owner sometimes for a maintenence report.

As for the car, if it's mechanically great, it's a good deal, if not it isn't. Don't understand why people are falling all over this post, I've seen lower miles 90 C2 coupes for $12G, and black/black w/ extensive records at that. These cars are seen as hellatious $$ pits and POSs by the normal, (non-Porsche nut), used car buyer, there is definitely more supply than demand of these.

That said, just last night I was discussing w/ a knowledgable track person how that particular car makes most sense as a starting point for a hot street and/or pure track car. You already have the 3.6 motor, even more importantly the coil spring suspension and improved chassis dynamics, simply gut the car and sell all of the parts you remove, (interior, accessories, etc.), you could be in the thing for old Honda $$.

I saw the original thread over at www.rennlist.com. A young guy found that car and asked everyones opinion on it...and he generally got ripped into by everyone telling him to "run" etc.

Man for $12K... theres not that much risk involved. Even if it needs a new engine, you could still get market value on resell. The car looks good.

I hope the guy who originally found the car gets a crack at it, because he is the one that "found" the car...all he needs is a PPI.

My wife lets me get all the PPI's I want as long as I never buy anything, kinda her way of creating a non-self fufilling prohpecy. Que mujer!
