Ventilation control box

Hello all-

In the process of readjusting the ventilation Bowden cables, I found that a previous owner/mechanic cut holes in the top of each ventilation control box (see pics). Does anybody know why that may have been done? Easy access to the flapper to make adjustments? Seems like an awfully terrible idea. Anyhow, it appears both part numbers have been discontinued per the PET. As such, I'm on the hunt for good used parts. Any suggestions? I hear einmaligparts.com is good.

Thanks Bob! I was actually able to find a pair on Ebay last night. Now I'm curious as to why someone would cut holes in them. Some people should not be allowed anywhere near a car with tools.

Previous owner was probably going to run some hoses to updated 86-up style vents to each end of the dash.

Ahhhh, interesting! I hadn't thought of that. Thanks for the insight.
