What is it?? Shroud? Deflector? Tin?
![]() ![]() So during Covid I was told I was going to have five weeks off so of course I started taking my 911 engine apart to repair some damage from a fire. In the end I only had 5 days off and then I got busier than I’ve been in 20 years of my life LOL. Finally I’ve been media blasting and painting and Cerakoting things and I have assembled the engine and this is leftover. It's been 3 years since I took it apart.... I kept thinking it would become obvious where it went but at this point it hasn’t. All the tins are in and seem to make sense so I’m wondering if I missed something under the shroud? It’s from a 1973 9/11E originally MFI now a 2.7 with PMOs. It retains the on engine oil cooler

That is the Baffle for #6 to oil cooler riveted to bottom of the riveted LONG grey duct version shroud circa 70-72 ...
Not quite sure if that shroud carried into 73, because the Next shroud supercession, 73, was integral duct with extended baffle to form the ducting, and the short grey oil cooler cap. Then the kinked integral duct came in 74 to make room for the #4 aluminum cis runner vs the 73.5 T cis made with steel tubes , the larger casting of Aluminum interfered with the 73 smooth duct, thus the kink and another supercession. The steel extended baffle will be notched at the fan side to accommodate the deformed “kink” and disturbed airflow. The 74 shroud carried on to 88 with different port cuts from cis/Mfi/motronic 69 is a one year only , no oil duct, but Mfi injector bumps with riveted alternator air deflector vanes. 65-68, just carbs and riveted vanes. Maybe more than you needed to know. But that’s where your mystery part fits. |

Yes, but THANKYOU!
I was about to take my shroud off and stare at it. So, essentially, it separates the cylinder fins from the oil cooler? I will warm up the riveter! Makes sense that it's going someplace it can't be seen, maybe I knew that when I sprayed the cerakote, but had forgotten in the interim.
