From a fellow 2.7 owner....when mine kicks (has 247,000 on the clock now) I'd certainly look at going the route of a good 3.0 to replace mine.
Due to the Mag case of a 2.7, it's very difficult to stop all oil leaks in it without a complete rebuild.
I do understand the finance issue, but a quick replacement of a 3.0 and then sell the core brings it down and you're out driving and enjoying the car.
