Help with windshield trim
I have a different problem with a corner of my windshield. The rubber seal is wide enough and fits well but the trim piece does not fit down into the the seal on the passenger side. It's an '87 with the built in antenna and the glass is in good condition so I'm reluctant to start tapping on the corner. I'm a complete rookie at glass work and really don't want to crack the corner of the glass.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to gently fit the trim back down into the seal? Thanks. ![]() ![]() |

Generally speaking if the trim has popped out, you will not be able to get it back in without removing the windshield and starting over resetting the seal and the trim. Probably the trim was bent a little and needs to bent again carefully to get it seated without separating as you pull the seal in.

This is probably a bad idea, but for a small area like that is there any hope for liberal application of specialty rubber lubricant (thinking cable pulling lube) and a hefty whack of a dead blow hammer?

The dead blow hammer makes me cringe. I have removed and installed 911 front and back before. Had good luck, but the trim pieces are not cheap and they kink if not handled well. Buy new seal, call your local porsche dealer and ask what glass company they use. Put it on them. If they screwup the trim, their fault.
It looks like the seal is old is the problem. Last edited by porschedude996; 03-23-2023 at 02:41 PM.. |

Agree. Once the trim piece pulls out of the channel, there is no hope of getting it back in without pulling the whole assembly. BTDT

Thanks for the input. I managed to massage the trim back into place. It's not perfect but is a lot better than it was. I put some dish soap into the gap, used a hard plastic roller to push the trim down and a then shoved the rubber seal up. It took a few repetitions to get it close. I finished by getting under the seal from the body side and pushing it down towards the windshield. The gap is mostly gone but in the corner I'm left with very little overlap of the seal onto the body. As was pointed out I'll probably need a new seal and perhaps new trim at some point. Thanks again. Frank

It looks good. And I hope it “sticks”. for me once the trim hook was out of the groove, even putting it in close proximity where it was laying in the groove didnt last. I hope it works better for you
