Oil tensioner line is too short, help?
Okay so I got my car running (finally), but I noticed an oil leak right away from the drivers side oil line that goes from the distributor area to the side of the head and feeds the timing chain tensioner.
![]() Not sure what to do. Part # is 930-107-347-14, which Pelican says will fit my 1977 targa. I mean theoretically I could go to the hardware store and maybe locate a metric brass fitting to extend this but I’d rather just have a line the correct length. Can anyone shed some light on this and what is going on? Are 77s supposed to use a weird line that backdates the spring tensioners to oil? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Anybody? I can't be the only person who's had this issue. There is no way the new line is usable.

Does this help any? I'm not following all the different PN's but maybe you've got a wrong one.

Might be easier to bring it to a hydraulic line shop and having the rubber hose replaced with a longer one.

Thanks for the link, I explored the part numbers talked about in there:
930-107-347-06 = Not correct, this has no rubber section, and no fitting for the oil line to the tensioner ![]() 930-107-347-09, same problem: ![]() I don't get it. I don't see how this line could ever possibly work, given how short it is. Do later cars have a longer fitting near the distributor????

Several years ago the metal went from gold to silver and in doing so moved the connector on the hose. The drop to the tensioner needs to color match to fit correctly ..or bend what you have to work.

I don't know how bending it will make it an inch longer.

Send pictures of the lines installed on the engine. And where is the old line/hose leaking?

I had the same problem and bent the line to make it the correct length.

https://youtu.be/ToRYPNVMBH4?t=453 It's leaking from the rubber section, I believe the rubber hose is collapsing/deteriorating

That video shows the chain tensioner supply pipes fitting correctly. What am I missing?
The rubber hose fitting does leak after many years. Replacements aren't very expensive at Pelican. The last one I bought was about $40 (right side). Not worth getting the old one rebuilt for that price.

That video shows my ORIGINAL gold (leaky) hose. I started the engine and it leaked. The new one is about 1" shorter than my old one.

I agree with Ivan. Send it back and get the correct length.

Looks like the hard fitting is definitely short, they may have mislabeled the fitting during the build and didn’t catch it. I think you could take it to a hose shop and insert a longer middle section and make it work, that would be the fastest way here…

So... I just tried returning this to Pelican, and ordering the official Porsche one... then a week went by, and now they're saying that part has to come from Germany, because there aren't any in the united states. I find this hard to believe. So many people are building aircooled engines here, and yet there is not ONE brand new oil line? Anywhere?
They also want to charge me for shipping from Germany now. This is so annoying. I just want a part that fits.

I went through this when putting my 2.7 case motor together.
They have a variety of lines that you can order none if it was clear, what i did was order all of them essentially and send back what I did not use. if you want help with that let me know Ill get the PN i used and we can compare it to the ones you have.

They said none of the dealers have them except for the ones in Germany. I just find this super hard to swallow; my BS detectors are going off hard right now.
