Quaife in a 901 not that good??

Hello everybody, i recently installed a quaife in a 901 and so far its not that nice, it has killed the drifting of the car without providing a measurable upgrade. Am i doing something wrong or its just torsen for fwd drive cars and lsd (disc type ) for rwd and rear engine cars? So far the car was much more fun with the open diff

Thanks a lot

What was the outcome you were looking for by adding a limited slip differential?

Is the quaife a torque-biasing or limited slip differential? Torque biasing will only be noticeable until one tire completely loses grip, then it acts like it’s wide open. Limited slip is a much more noticeable change, particularly when used as you’ve referenced (drifting) when you’re beyond your tires limits.

mostly controllability when drifting and being able to keep the car going sideways longer

the quaife is a torque blasting differential, it seems to cause a very unpredictable rear end

A Quaife is definitely different from a limited slip. You'll get different behavior from a Quaife than you'll get from an LSD or an open diff. Quaife only makes torque biasing diffs and not LSDs for 911s to my knowledge. I'm a little surprised that an open diff would allow drifting better than a Quaife. At least the way I understand drifting.

drifting takes much more effort with the quaife. with the open diff it was more controllable

And by drifting, do you mean sustained tail out, smoking tires kind of drifting?

Drifting; go spool or welded.

The Quaife is providing better traction and fighting your efforts to lose control. It’s actually doing exactly what it’s supposed to do.

As another mentioned, if you want a drift car, get a spool. Or an LSD locked to 80%.
