Only key broke off in lock
 

Okay, Crap!

My only key to the 930 broke off in the ignition. I'm sure I can get the end out, but how do I get a new one made? Can a locksmith make a new key out of the stub?

Take the car VIN#, along with proof of ownership to a dealership. They should be able to cut you a new key. While you're at it, maybe have extras made?

A good locksmith can make you a key just by looking at it.

The following is a true story, however hard to believe -

Friend of mine locked his keys in the car, hanging in the ignition. 'Merican car so seperate ignition / door keys.

We called a locksmith. Just by looking through the window at the dangling key, the locksmith fabricated a working copy.

Funny story Chuck...and I believe it. Years ago, a friend sold a '76 Turbo to a con artist. The money never came through.
So, dealership cut a key for the repo man, who drove the car away as the con guy was inside the bar bragging about his Porsche Turbo....I'd have liked to have seen that one! :D

When I was a kid, I walked out of the store to drive my dad's Galaxie home. I used the key to unlock the door and got it, but couldn't get the ingition key to turn. Tried and tried, it just wouldn't go. As I sat there trying to think of what to do, I noticed some stuff on the passenger side of the bench seat that didn't look familiar. More looking - OMG! This wasn't our car! It was four spaces away - both keys worked in the right car! Incredible that two Fords, same year, same color, had the same door key. Thankfully they had different ignition keys.

The same key worked in both my dad's '51 GMC pickemup and his '56 Buick Roadmaster. Discovered by "accident" one day by a then teenaged son. Don't know if Dad ever found out...;)

You can open (and fly) half of the older Cessnas with the same key. That's scary!!

It still happens today. I had a 87' mazda 626 (pre porsche days and post college days) that fit an 88 RX7. A guy in the gym picked up my key by accident and drove his RX7 home. He only discovered the problem when my house key didn't fit his house. Needless to say my wife was not too impressed by waiting in the gym until someone brought back the keys.

Probably out of your way, but you could try Dexter Locksmith on Halsted just north of Belmont (closer to Roscoe). The lock on the trunk of my Rolls was sticking and I kept breaking the darn keys (luckily, I had about 5 spares made when I bought it - hey, I'm a former Boy Scout, ok?!). They made a copy from one of the stubs, and later made a working key using just the number of a lock.

This just happened to me two weeks ago. I had a key made from the stub and it works great!

My dad has a story like that...got into the wrong green honda with his door key, only to find the ignition key didn't work.

Same thing happened to me...got shank out of ignition switch...took key stub and shank to GOOD, repeat GOOD, locksmith...was back on the road with new key in minutes.
