Fixed the CIS Problems, Still Runs Badly!
 

Well,

I fixed the WUR-lack of power and fuel pump check valve failure. The car starts much better now. Guess what? It still runs badly when hot. But, the deal is, the car runs great before the engine gets hot. For about fifteen or twenty minutes the thing runs good then it begins to cut out at higher RPM.

We found a short in the ignition ground wire and fixed it. The car still begins to cut out as it warms up. The coil appears to be leaking dialectric a bit. So, I will try to find a coil (old style with connectors on one side of coil) and probably replace the plug wires (cheap ones MM put on with rebuild). What else could it be? Spark plugs are brand new.

Help guys. The good weather won't last forever!

Could be a bad CDI unit that act up once it get hot, if it is running good before it get hot, I don't think it the CIS anymore.

Change the coil asap. A bad coil can destroy your CDI. Make sure you get the correct one.
Other things to check cap and rotor, especially rotor as it has a limiter in it.

I plan on changing the coil. The trouble is I have an old style coil with the power and ground on the same side. PP says they aren't available anymore. I will just have to change the wiring a bit to fit the new style.

Late today I found that there is a short in the power wire from the CD box. The engine will stop running if I move this wire around. So, a repair of this short may fix the problem, or maybe its just another one.

Update:

The short in the ignition ground is fixed, the CD box was changed out with a known good box. Guess what, it still runs badly. Actually now, it will not start at all! Neat how it continues to get worse before my very eyes. The only thing left, I believe is the coil, which is leaking. If I get a coil that fits, I will try it and hopefully get the car running again.

Is it possible that the shorted wires, that were supposedly gone through and repaired by MotorMeister (not) have caused the coil to fail?

uh oh...

When I had a similar problem last summer (when I bought the car), I replaced the CD unit, coil, wiring harness, plugs, rotor, dist cap and tuned it up. I also replaced all of the vacuum hoses and then the car ran great. My problem was a combination of electrical/vacuum leaks,, which are now fixed.
