No power to the FV plug

I can't feel the FV vibrating or buzzing.I tested the FV and I'm getting continuity and a ohms reading of 3.9 ohms but should be between 2-3 as I have read in the Bentley service manual. I replaced the relay at the Lambda box and still no power. I installed a noide test light on the plug with ignition on and raised the sensor plate lever and no power. How would I check the main connector on the left side rear of the engine, which pin powers the FV?

Thanks

Sounds like you might be in some chamber of CIS Hell. You might try being a bit more specific. Engine, year, model, etc...

It's a 82SC. I ran a wire from the relay connector under the seat (black/red) wire to the FV plug and got continuity with my Ohm meter.

The dome light fuse powers the FV relay under the pass seat. You need power out of both 87 terminals to power the control box and power the FV. The control box oscillates the ground to the FV. Usually a bad relay of bad wire connection in the relay plug. Do your dome lights work?

Is there 12V at the two 87 terminals on the relay? Is the plug on the rear shock cross-member plugged in or any corrosion there?

Would I need to jump the fuel pump relay to test for power at 2 87 terminals?
Are you referring to the 12 pin plug?

Joe,

John W. is talking about the FV relay mounted near the ECU located under the passenger side seat. The FV relay gets power from terminal #30 that supplies power to the FP and S18.

Yes I know that's the relay under the seat. It has power I tested it. I replaced the relay but still no power to the FV. He mentioned the plug at the rear shock cross member.

I tested the relay I purchased using a battery. Connected 85 to ground and 30 to power, when I connect 86 to power and touch terminal 86 it clicks. If I connect a test light and I touch 87 I believe
it lights up but no light if I touch 87a, if I disconnect 86 then it lights up. Is that working correctly?

Joe,

You are making this simple CIS testing procedure too difficult to follow. I don’t blame you if you are a beginner. But you have been doing this for months now and should have attained enough experience to understand it. I strongly suggest to read DKLever48’s post about testing the FP relay socket terminals. Everything you need to know how to diagnose and interpret the test results were widely discussed in that thread.

If you still struggle to understand some parts of the discussion, feel free to ask here. You need to understand how the 5 relay terminals (87A, 87, 86, 85, & 30) function respectively with the ignition switch @:
  • Ignition Switch @ OFF position.
  • Ignition Switch @ ON/RUN position.
  • Ignition Switch @ START position.

Replicate the different tests in DKLever48’s post and you will have a better understanding how CIS works and become confident in your investigation. I could not follow the logic of your test procedure/s and what you want to diagnose.

Tony

With the engine running, test for 12v out of the FV relay terminals 87 and 87A. Simple. If you don't get 12V at both, jump 12V to the other and see if that fixes the issue with the FV. Be sure you have a relay that excites both 87 terminals and not just one. The stock relays have a diagram on the side that will show this function. They look the same, but function differently.

Should I remove the relay and test at the plug or pull the relay slightly and test that way?
And again with the jumper wire at the plug itself?
Thanks for your help.

Test at the back of the plug. Stick the test probe in where the wires come out of the plug. Figure out which wires are the 87s first.

Got that ,87 is black/white and 87b is black/red and there are 2 coming out of that plug according to the wiring diagram. If I don't get power to both how do I jump the wire's if the relay is installed?

If you have the proper relay, both should be hot. A bent paper clip pushed into the back of the plug will bridge the terminals. The engine will liven up when connected.

Post a pic of the diagram on the relay.
