Looking to buy a 911 Correra 4

I found a 2000 locally at a dealer. He does not know as much as I do about them so that’s not much! While looking up thing’s wondering if there is any other names it goes by such as the engine #?
I’d like to particularly know the name of this engine & can I find out if the bearing was replaced because it was supposed to have been replaced along with the transmission @ 116,000 miles. It now has 156,000.
Thanks!

A 2000 Porsche 911 is a so called "996" generation Porsche 911. It might help you to start with the Wikipedia page on them: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_911_(996)

996 Porsche 911s use the M96 Porsche engine. The M96 engines have a well known issue with the IMS bearing. If you Google for '996 IMS' you will find tons of information.

I do not believe there is a way to confirm that the IMS bearing was replaced without removing the engine or transmission from the car to visually inspect the IMS...but then I am not a 996 expert and you should confirm this for yourself.

You might also check out the Pelican forum that is specifically for 996 Porsches here:

May be books like this are a good entry point...

There are also some buyers guides available.
