Question on rear deck lid hinge spacers

Was working on the AC system and noticed a bolt missing on my deck lid hinge.
1984 911 Targa with AC.

Looking closer I noticed that there were a couple shims on the front bolt between the deck lid and the hinge on the passenger side. On the driver side there is only one shim in the front.

There are a number of issues I've run into this car where things are not quite right after it was put back together after the paint job.

Does anyone know what the correct shims should be for the hinges?

Is it trial and error until I get a good fit?

I think it is trial and error, because IIRC the PET does not mention number of shims required or mentions something like "as necessary".

As necessary indeed. They don't match up in mine either, yet the lid is fitted as perfect as can be.

If it fits well as-is, DON'T TOUCH IT!

Understood, but I at least have to add that 4th bolt.

Which likely means it needs a shim or 2 to match the current gap. Though I dont know if that gap stays when its closed.

I would add a shim and the bolt then close the lid. Adjust as needed.

I have the shins - one under each hinge at the top. Looks to keep lid aligned perfectly with the roofline and side to side.
