Occasional Start Problem

86 3.2 Carrera. Very occasionally although seems to be getting more frequent when I turn the key I just get a click with the dash lights coming on. First few times I thought it was a flat battery and charged it up because that’s exactly how it looks. Try it again and it always starts. Probably happens about one in ten times but want to sort it before it leaves me stranded. I’m thinking maybe starter solenoid or ignition switch??
Any help appreciated

I made basically the same thread a few months ago. Could be the tranny ground strap, starter solenoid, starter, ignition switch (in roughly that order).

Good luck!

...not to forget the starter solenoid contacts...they often get dirty over time and then the ignition and the starter switch are working, the starter enggages but still nothing happens...

Also 964s and 993s are also mostly known for a stucked cog in the flywheel, probably also a potential issue on G body cars?

Follow the wire diagram with a multimeter to narrow the problem...
