911SC Air Injection Port Plugs?

I've heard that Mercedes Benz makes a drain plug? to fit the
ports when the air injection jets are removed from the cylinder
heads.

Does anyone know the part# or any other options for plugging the ports?

i bought mine from www.type911.co.uk for 1£ a piece. I think Pelican carries them too. it's 10mm plug with 1mm thread pitch.

The ports in question are the ones that pump fresh air into the exhaust to meet emission requirements. The smog pump (usually found on left side of engine bay) is next to useless in most parts of the world and just takes up space. People remove it (like me) and plug the ports.

No one would on your's. The '78 & '79 (maybe '80?) had an air pump that injected air into the exhaust runners near the heads. A common "upgrade" is remove the pump and plug the injector holes. Just for the more environmentally concerned, this was a stop-gap measure at best and really only made a difference in emissions at idle. This was before the use of the O2 sensor, which you have on your '82.

Good point, Chris. I forgot that in some markets the air pump was required until, what, '83? Later?

I bought a set a couple of years back when I had an SC from my local metric hardware supplier. They are actually "set screws" . Of course, living in Canada makes gettting metric stuff rather easy.

Wrong.

My -81 German 930 had air-pump.

This gentleman is based in Italy (Aviano airbase) so i guess he bought Italian-sourced car. As far as i remember, Italy didn't mandate cat-converters until early 90's so his car doesn't have O2 sensor! Weird but true.

For instance, 911's sold in Sweden got their O2 sensors first in 84' with Carreras.

Yes, in my second post (which you must not have seen) I acknowleded my failure to allow for markets other than the US, where the use of air-pumps and the fitting of the O2 sensor occured at different times than here in the US. Had I noticed the post originated in Italy, I may have remembered that fact. Just an idicator of my provinciality I guess.

Thanks for the help. After searching several hardware and auto parts stores in NW Ohio, I ordered the 914 brake caliper plugs from Pelican (support the host!). My SSI HX upgrade has turned out to quite an adventure.

Belt driven at the left rear of the engine. Almost directly across the engine from the AC pump (if you have one).

This is the only pic I can find of my pump still attached.

And this is where the small plugs will eventuall end up. All of the pipework has to be removed.

A 1/8'' NPT Brass Plumbing plug works perfectly, and you can pick them up at any hardware store.

Exclamation

I believe these are 10 x 1.0 metric straight threads; an 1/8" NPT pipe plug (.397" to .390" major diameter and 27 threads per inch) will likely go in (assemble) but will deform the threads in the aluminum head. Jim

do the air injectors come out easily? I was thinking about drenching mine with a little penetrating oil for a couple of days (not that penetrating oil works it just makes me feel better) then take a crack at them.

does the 1/8" NPT plug thread in nicely or does it just maul it's way in? I'd hate to ruin the threads on the heads. If emmissions testing comes to my area It would really hurt.
