S&h making it really hard to shop here
I have shopped with pelican for years and usually don't have this problem. Is it new and have you all seen it too?
Need to order the little door mirror mounting finger. Can't weigh even an ounce. Pelican site quoted my s&h at $19 to me in VA. That seems a out $10 too much to me. Anyone else notice this on small orders? ![]() |

Obviously their way of avoiding the unprofitable small orders.

A bit steep indeed. Not cheap to operate in CA.
Think about that warehouse clerk having to trek all the way to the back of the massive, dark warehouse on an electric scooter, fiddle through various cabinet drawers, roll back and drop that item into a bin for the packaging clerk to box it up, forward it over to the shipping clerk to weigh and tag it, fire it off to the loading dock for a lumper to toss into the lorry. My recent order was short, so I added some non-essentials to be qualified for Free Shipping but then I opted for the faster $6 up charge- got all the stuff in a week …in 3 separate shipments, essentially I could have saved $6 and get it slow boated, expecting a weekend project took 3 weeks after waiting for separate delivery times. Kind of disappointing but I see where the money goes…on cardboard packaging materials. More so perplexing is that the bushings I ordered could have easily fit in a padded bubble envelope, I too wondered why they came in a shoe sized box. Are plastic shipping bags prohibited in CA ? It might have be easier, quicker for me to go to the Dealer since there’s one within range, for any single one-off items should they even have it and paying a hefty 10.75% sales tax here. |

What you have to realize is PP isn't a big shipping customer and that means retail prices. Box stores typically have local to shipping hubs/warehouses. Large shipments close to a hub save both of those companies money. Just ask for USPS ground.
I ordered from PP a week or so ago. Forgot some trim items and called them back to add. They were gracious and added. Free shipping for me. |

Small USPS priority box would be $10 and the box is included. That’s retail. It’s just a way for them to make more money.

Bought something on eBay today for this exact reason. Price was the same but “free” 3 day shipping on eBay was included in the price. Shipping is free on PP if you spend over $100 but its EIGHT DAY shipping! It takes forever. I buy almost everything from PP but their shipping program sometimes is a deal breaker.

90% of the time I buy elsewhere because of the ridiculous shipping prices.
I bet no one at Pelican cares what we have to say here either. This forums only purpose for the Pelican folks is for us to buy stuff. People here don't realize they are worth big money to Pelican Parts. They are doing us no favors....

PP's higher shipping prices has made me look at other Vendors that has free shipping at $50 or at least more reasonable shipping.
RockA uto is also guilty of higher than avg shipping especially if being shipped from Warewhouse "A", "B" and "C". $20 to ship something less than an ounce is a rip-off.

For every 5 of us that will actually go elsewhere and find a better deal, I bet there is at least a few who just order from Pelican and eat the shipping. Folks who aren't here in the forums, etc.
I'll either find elsewhere for this small stuff or try and wait to do a hundred dollar order. Can always use an extra oil filter and some vacuum tube, right?!?! hahaha |

Unfortunately, a lot of my needs for the car are small (oil filters, plugs, maybe hand tools) so I can't justify ordering from Pelican because I can get these items on Amazon or at Autozone for a fraction of the cost due to the shipping.
If I'm ordering a larger item, I'm happy to support the community that has supported my hobby but it just doesn't make sense unless I'm ordering a bunch of stuff or a few large items.

They do ship 1st class for just a few bucks but the threshold is stupid low... something like one washer's fine but not two, the latter bumps up to priority only at the prices being lamented here.

Went thru this last week. Part weight maybe 1/2 lb. max. and the S&H was $18.50. Found a vendor that offered free shipping with $60.00 min. Sorry Pelican but I tried.

Try living in Canada and ordering from Pelican... it's even worse. usually a week later I get hit with Duty/tax bill on top of the shipping I paid, plus the exchange rate... lol

I placed an order on 6/7, items were listed as "in stock"...paid shipping, got an email that everything was ready to ship. And then I got the "delayed shipment" emails. Went back and forth with customer support, no the stuff is expected to ship on 7/6. No Bueno.
These were some cosmetic items, and since they were in stock, I chose Pelican. But, I'll go back to those guys in CT next time, they haven't let me down. Parts arrive next day.

However ... no restocking charge is nice, unlike some other vendors.

I pay the shipping, I believe in supporting the company that has been good to me. I am fairly new to air-cooled 911's and they have helped me a bunch over the phone.

I'm buying more and more from a local Porsche dealership. They know me, give me a good discount and the total cost usually works out to be a bit cheaper. I would like to support Pelican more, but their shipping costs just make it a non-starter.
