Dash indictor lights 83 sc

This is very recent but occasionally both direction indicator lights (arrows) will light up but not flash. Then they turn off just as abruptly as they turned on.
Any ideas what might cause this?
Thx
Hugh

usually bad ground....or connection to one light bulb in the either front or rear tail light unit

Ivan
also possibly the turn signal relay

Thanks Ivan, that'll be good reason and opportunity to check connections and even give them a dab of dielectric grease.

Having said that, would such a questionable connection cause the lights to come on automatically?

The below two threads can provide some help on why the tach turn signal lights start to act up in different ways.

Thank you Pat. I'll check those sites to see what I can learn.

Pat, I read your articles, removed the flasher relay and opened it. That's as far as I dare go.
I don't feel comfortable attempting to mess with the innards of the relay.
I'll re read your post to see if there's another way to attempt a solution. Meanwhile I'll live with it (obviously).
Thank you,
Hugh

As mentioned above, I dared not mess with the flasher relay but instead decided to follow up on Ivan's suggestion.
I looked at the driver's front signal light first and lo and behold that was the bad one. Both the light bulb and the socket had some corrosion which I was able to clean off. Haven't had a problem since.
Thx Ivan.
