Targa Vent Window Info
I had a 72 Targa, and now have an 88 - one thing I miss from the 72 and also my 70E was the opening door vent window. I have seen some folks that have swapped in some older frames with success and it makes me think - which is not always a good thing.
Does anyone know what year they stopped with the opening vent, and also, were their years they were offered in black finish? Just trying to narrow a search should I decide to give this a shot. I see there is a driver's side in the Classifieds, but want to be at least somewhat better informed before shredding 100 dollar bills.

I did this to my 83 targa - very, very simple upgrade and one of the favorite modifications I've done to the car. Even when closed, they are quite a bit noisier at speed due to the external hinges, I think, but still well worth it.
I was able to find a black anodized set - maybe from Samba classifieds. I've seen some mention they weren't available in G-bodies, but I don't know that that's accurate (and I also don't know that anodized trim was offered on longhoods). You might check with some of the longtime Porsche wreckers - maybe GH & Sons, Einmalig, DC Auto, etc. I thought it would be pretty difficult to find them, but turned out to be pretty easy. |

I'm not sure when the black anodized started, but I believe the last Targas to have moveable side windows was 76. I know they had them in 75 and did not have them in 77. I put some in my 77 targa (well 1, still have to do the other side...2 years later lol)
I'm pretty sure all years will fit. I would try to get a set instead of buying EPBILLs one side.

I agree, I believe 1976 was the last year to use the movable vent windows.

Thank you - part of me was thinking to only do the driver's side, but just not sure. As far as noise, let's face it, its a Targa. Even with the most perfect seals and top, its just noisier, so not sure I really care too much. I had a 67 911 with the movable vents with not so great seals and latch, above 70 the vents would often open up a bit.
This is a down the road project - I need to first replace my throttle linkage, run cable and power to my AFR gage and WBO2 sensor, spring plates and washer nozzles and bottle. I am ditching the big tank and only using the small intensive bottle.

I have been running just the 1 for about 2 years because I got side tracked. It is a great add. Also, EPBill is mistaken, his may have been off a 77, but it did not come from the factory like that and I don't know what a 77 SC is.
What small intensive washer bottle are you going with? I put the boxster one on my 77 with the CR kit.

There was an option for an Intensive washer that had a special fluid that worked with the regular. It is a large grapefruit sized bottle as an option I think in the mid to late 80s. Part number 911 628 027 00 - apparently made of unobtanium by the ultra rare SEC freshman virgin sorority girls. (kidding). It mounts just behind the driver shock tower, so is a shorter run to the nozzles. Have to open the hood to fill, but I rarely used my current one before it crapped out. I want the current one out of the way for the eventual install of electric ac condenser there to also work with the front to have 2. A plan anyways....

AS far as the window vent, looking it appears MAYBE an option through 76, black is rare. This is not a huge priority for me, but I love the idea.

All targas had opening vent windows through MY76. They went away when a bunch of other changes were made - vents in the dash, different door locks, etc. - for MY77

Black anodized was part of the factory option - ‘Chrome Parts Black’ they called it on the COA.
All my anodizing has faded except for one strip. The only way to know if a car once had the option was there’s still black in the window frames edges that didn’t see sun…and rear pop out window handles were also black. |

Not directly pertinent to the original question, but I read somewhere that those little triangular windows went away because of theft issues.

Washer
NDITZ -
here is the intensive washer bottle. Nice to be able to spit on the windscreen after not working for 14 years. Pretty easy install. This weekend am removing the large reservoir up front. ![]()
