modifying SC single in exhaust to GT3 style

Anyone modify a factory 3.0 SC single in / single out muffler to GT3 center exit style.

I was planning on capping the existing drivers side exit and welding in a pair of center pipes but was curious how things may sound.

Anyone done similar?

I have not done this but am planning to and was using the following as a guide.

I actually have two mufflers, a stock of stainless steel sheet metal and a MIG welder.....so I was thinking between all that I ought to be able to do the job.

I think there are some threads about this, but the search button does not work for me as I am a new (returning) user to this forum and I guess they lock you out for a while when you sign up.

Peter,

That is awesome! I was looking to avoid splitting the existing muffler to get to the internals, but this clears up why I should do so.

Searching has been a struggle for me as well, as the search terms are very generic.

The picture shown is for a 2 in 2 out, just as a fyi.

I just split open my SC's muffler last night, to find it's internals were different than that of others I've seen posted on here. Will hope to get some work done on it tonight in preparing it for a 1 in 2 out set up. Nearly everything will have to be shuffled around and changed, along with a 4th separation wall added in to make it properly work.

Mind snapping a quick picture of what the internals of a single in single out look like?

My other alternative is to sell my factory muffler and piece together a replacement for 200 bucks or so

Here is mine, I built. The muffler was a pre74 build that was in rough shape.

So, here is a quick picture of what my muffler looked like when first opened, and then after a bit of work on it tonight.

The red is the main entry, capped off, and will be perforated with 1/2" holes.

The blue is where a added in pipe will go, to where the green outline is, which is an added in chamber.

The yellow is a corner piece of the green plate removed for fitment, and also exhaust gas pathway.

The teal blue(?) color will be the exit tips.

Orange is original exit plug

Brown arrows are the flow path, hopefully...

Thanks. That is a bit more complex than anticipated but still doable.

I’ll dig in next week as soon as some stainless arrives for tips.

Curious to hear your thoughts on how it sounds when complete.

While this isn't the center Gt3 style you originally asked about, I gotta say, it turned out to be absolutely banger of a success. Interior noise is very nice, but outside has a nice idle low rumble hinting it's not stock, with that classic high rpm rasp. Will try and make some videos happen this weekend.

I was first worried it was going to be too loud and need insulation added into the end chambers, but if anything, it could stand to be maybe a smidgen louder. I still haven't heard it at full chat from outside the car though. It might already be right where it should be.

I did have to remove my rubber bumpers and the lower trim to fit it. Will figure something out later for that. Want to just replace both bumpers to begin with glass pieces, so might just run with it as seen for a while.
