Matt Cooley '68 swb

Hi Guys,

glad to be back!
After selling the jlp rsr I have been craving for a replacement.
Looked at a lot of 911's & 912's but no "coup de coeur" until I found something special, I had it for a very long time as a screensaver, it is a car I often look back to and a build tread I often reread. It was super cool more than 10 years ago and it still is super cool now. I just didn't know I was looking at this exact car: the matte bleu '68 of Matt Cooley.
It is a '68 911L and if I am correct the US L is like a S but with another engine?
It is now slate grey, and still a very beautiful car, but the moment I knew it was Matt's former car I bought it, and I am thinking to bring it back to it's matte paint/color. It is in transport now and I hope to have it this weekend.
All info on the car is welcome.
Somebody knows Matt in person? Can't find recent activity on the forum.

Best,

Nico

Hi Nico,

I'm still here after all these years, and I'm glad to see the car is being used/enjoyed as it should be.

I also stumbled on a for sale add a couple of months ago, I think it was in Belgium, and I recognized a couple of details that were unmistakable. When I built that car I was trying to do something a little different, and on the raw side, hence the matte blue paint and very sparse interior. That being said, It really is spectacular in slate grey. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I'd be happy to share any info I have on the car during the time I owned it. I also have quite a few unpublished pics, if you're into that.

Goodmorning Matt,

glad to read you!
About four years ago I posted this exact picture on pelican parts "narrow body hotrods" as my all time favorite.
The car was for sale in the Netherlands and by checking the vin I came out on an ad on early s and then found out it was your car I was looking at.
Love the attention to detail and it's raw side, which is gone now due to the color change.
I will bring it back to the matte blue.
Would be great to have some more pictures and the color code if you have it?

Best,

Nico

This, to me, is one of the builds that stick out in my mind. Many times have I kicked myself for not trying to buy it when you sold it Matt!

Super happy to hear it’s going back to what it looked like back then

Another one that sticks out is Kundensports blue lightweight car

Yes! The kundensport 911, absolutely a fantastic car. My brother still has a magazine with a feature on that car.

Me as well in both counts! IMO, Matt was a trendsetter for this look. I also remember seeing it in its Burgandy 911L form.

Been some changes in its Slate incarnation. A couple I like, a couple I wish the PO had kept. Will be interesting to see it back in blue.
