Hard Oil Line Repair - Nipple Replacement

So a while back, I damaged the nuts on the hardline for my 79 911. I managed to heat the old brass nipple, pull that off then use a new nut and used solder to reattach the brass nipple.

The nipples were a little more damaged than anticipated and there's a pretty significant leak at the thermostat.

I obtained 2 steel nipples and new nuts from a supplier but I'm unsure of the best way to attach them to the brass oil lines.

Do I go with silver solder? JB Weld? Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I had my son machine a brass nipple a few years ago and soldered into place. I am sure if you prep it right and flux, solder will work great.

Good to know, thanks Jeff.

I'm thinking solder on the steel nipple might be the way to go.

Being a mechanical contractor, we make dissimilar metal joints a lot. If the steel ID and brass OD are tight and super clean, a then a silver solder will work. If you are doing a butt joint then it will be a braze. I like the Harris line of solders and brazing rods. No propane or map. Large turbo torch on acetylene or the best is O2 & acetylene.

Was looking at this:

https://solder-it.com/product/silver-paste/

For silver solder, seems to be a bunch of different grades etc of silver solder.

Next time, you (or someone else) might be interested in that Elephant racing has nut that slips over the nipple with a snap ring to hold it in place, so you don't need to do all this soldering/brazing.

I've brazed these fittings several times on my cars and others. Map works absolutely fine, you get it glowing red...

Update - A friend of mine is an HVAC tech and has loads of experience with silver soldering dissimilar metals. He's going to get the new ferrules on for me next week.

Getting closer...
