Front end damage. What would you advise?

A 911 guy I met years ago just told me that he mashed the front of his Carrera 3.2
Since he is probably still emotionally rattled, I said I would help him get some info on how to proceed.

What sorts of questions or concerns should he be wary of as he navigates insurance and/or finding a body shop?
For starters, can any body shop handle this, or does he need to find a vintage specialty body shop? (Celette to pull the front tub, etc?)

To my untrained eye - that does not look like the damage would be far enough back into suspension mounting points. Bumper, fender and headlight assembly, as well as oil cooler/lines might be the extent of the damage.

Where is this car located as others might have recommendations for shops?

Hopefully he didn’t swap out the crush tubes to save a little weight.

Thanks for the feedback.

The car is in Westchester, NY.

For posterity, I reached out to some another local car guy who suggested:
Gabrielle's Auto Body, NY
Automotive Associates, CT

those are good choices, I'd also recommend (highly) Pino at RSR Autobody in Wyckoff NJ

It appears to be mostly bolt on parts that need to be replaced.
It also appears really similar to what happened to me.

Fender, bumper, lights, valance...
Most can be obtained used from various vendors.
I happen to really like this guy...he has everything, is pretty local for you, and he is super nice.

Good luck. Its not the end of the car...just needs some new bits.

It's a fender bender, Sugar, the car will recover.

I just bought a 85 targa with very similar damage. Insurance company totaled the car. It was fixable but needed a bench, some metal and paint. I’m parting it out since it now has a salvage title.

pmax 06-08-2023 01:53 PM

Which insurance is it covered under ?

Most companies, if not all, will lowball the valuation so never accept their initial offers. Whether it's totaled or not is a game they play with the numbers. Do your comparables research and present them to the adjuster. Mileage for example plays a huge role in valuation.

Mark brings up a great point; don't let the insurance company total it, lest the title gets the "salvaged" brand. Buy it before that happens.

Go find 10 cars that sold on BAT, print out the sold sheet proof. Averages are most likely above 50k.
Print out the annual Carrera market guide (pick a magazine)

Get a quote or three
Looks like under 10k to me.

Provide all the proof to the insurance company
Get it fixed.

Gabriel's for sure. Frank is the man.

Rodsrsr 06-09-2023 07:01 AM

I wouldn't be surprised if that tub was bent.

tsuter 06-09-2023 07:52 AM

Probably won't align anymore, bent strut assembly, damaged control-arm shoved back an inch or so...front A/C condenser wiped out. Two pics don't tell the story....

His car is now at a body shop.
I will update the thread when I know more.
Thanks for the guidance
