Weber's fuel level specs.

Hello guys, I'm having a very rough idle on my 1980 targa , changed all gaskets on the weber carburetors, but couldn't find anything about fuel level specs.and how to measure it, I'm using the low pressure carb.type fuel pump but I suspect fuel.level is too high.
Have 3 questions please:

1) What's the correct way to.measure fuel.level and what should that level be?

2) What's the recommended fuel pump working psi?

3) Should I use a fuel pressure regulator?

Thank you.

The best and really only practical way to set Weber float levels is to bite the bullet and buy the Weber float level gauge. Any other way is labor-intensive.

As I recall the correct fuel pressure for Webers is 3.5 psi. This is about half what American car carbs used “back in the day.”

Unless you have a pump with adjustable pressure you will definitely need a fuel pressure regulator.

Once you have the gauge, are you aware of how the adjustment is made? NOT by bending the float tangs!

It has been my experience lower is better than higher with regards to Weber fuel pressure. Our slightly built 914 with 40IDF carbs runs great at 1.5 psi. Never runs out of fuel at highway speeds. But with higher pressure it can flood.

I can’t dispute that but with my 914-6 I always ran 3.5 psi. I think that was the spec in the factory manual, but it has been a long time. That was with a Stewart-Warner 240A pump.
