1973 911 e cdi box smoking?

hi ya. something strange happened a few days back. im trying to get my 2.4 e mfi running good. had it idling for a little. then i started to smell and see smoke coming out the right side of the engine. i shut the car off. it didnt smell like burning, oil. though maybe a few drips of oil leaked onto the heat exchangers. it looked like it was coming from the cdi box. could the cdi be smoking. im assuming its the original box. i had the car since around 2010. any thoughts?

If the engine was still running, very unlikely that the CDI box was the source of smoke. If it got damaged, the ignition should have stopped. When electronics overheat, they have a distinctive acrid smell. Did it smell like that?
