Quick fuchs question
 

Quick silly question. How can I tell what size my fuchs are, do I need to remove a wheel? Can I measure something while rim is attached. I recently put new dunlop 8000s on the car, 225s and 205s, "16" does this mean 16 inch wheels?

The sure way is to remove the wheel and look at the label but it sounds like you have 6's and 7's and yes if the tire says 16 then it is a 16" wheel

the numbers on the tires indicate 225= width of tire in mm
50=profile or sidewall measurement of tire in mm
16=diameter in inches

With 16" wheels and those tire sizes you can almost be 99.9% sure you have 6" wheels in front and 7" wheels in back. If you take a wheel off and look at the back you will see a number with the letter J behind it, such as 6J or 7J. The number refers to the width in inches of the wheel, which is a bit odd considering everything else is metric.

225/50-16 and 205/55-16 are standard sizes for 7&8 factory wheels, check the inside. The 7" and 8" have a noticeable difference in the rim depth to the paddles, but I don't know numbers and am far from home at the moment.

Go to almost any tire shop and ask them, they'll walk out with an oversized caliper, clip it over the tire and onto the rim and tell you the width. Of course, they'll also try to sell you some tires.;) Beats removing a pair of wheels, unless you need to know this minute.

Like everyone said, the numbers are stamped onto the inside of the wheel, and your's are most likely 6s and 7s. I'll just add that all of the markings are very hard to find if there is a lot of brake dust on the inside of the wheel (like there was on mine). Even worse is trying to explain to your wife why your scrubbing the INSIDE of the wheels.

Her: "But... you never see that part"
Me: "Yes, but I KNOW the dust is there"
Her: "OK dear.. whatever"

Thanks for the feedback on tire sizes, althought there seems to be some difference of opinion between 6/7 or 7/8, My tires are 225/50-16 and 205/55-16. I'm getting it dropped, and aligned this summer so I'll ask then.

The wheels are most likely 6 and 7s......205 is the standard for the front, 225 for the rear. The SC was standard with 15x6 and 7s....while a VERY common option was the 16x6and8s.

My 16x7 and 8s.....take 225/45 and 245/45 with no problems.

My car arrived on these shores as a 5-year-old with a piece of Porsche-generated paper that listed the options. Reading most of the information was guesswork, but the numbers clearly indicated 205 & 225 as the standard tire size for factory 7&8x16 Fuchs.

Check da wheel stamping or feed a beer to a caliper-wielding tech, resist the new sneakers sales pitch ;)

I don't think any 911's came with 16x7 and 16x8. There were 15x7 and 15x8, 16x6 and 16x7, in '89 there were 16x6 and 16x8, and the turbo's and turbo-looks had 16x7 and 16x9.

I could be wrong, but I don't think any non-widebody 911 came with 16x7 on the front. 205 55 16 is stock on 16x6 and 16x7 when on the front, and 225 50 is stock for 16x7 and 16x8 on the rear with 245 45 being stock for 16x9 on the rear.

15's are, of course a whole 'nother story

While my car has Design 90 wheels on, my tires are the same size and I have I belive 7 and 8's. I am 100 % positive the backs are 8's, as it says 8J, the fronts might be 6's I will look when I get home.

Andy, again, I could be wrong, but I thought the optional wheels were 15x7 and 15x8 Fuchs or 16x6 and 16x7 Fuchs.

I'm suprised this got this far without being noticed!

The middle number -- "50" in 225/50/16 -- is the aspect ratio. It is sidewall height in percent (50% in this case) of the width measurement (which is in mm).

In this case the sidewall height is 225mm x 50% = 112.5mm.
