Exclamation 1978 Porsche 911SC--asleep for 30 years

Hello Everyone! I was going to name this topic "What Are My Odds?".

Here's my dilemma. I'm no rookie to Porsche but I have little experience in determining what can happen to a Porsche engine that has been sitting dormant, in a garage, in a mild climate, for 30 years. Never started, covered in dust, all tires flat as a pancake, but actually a very decent car all in all--undamaged, presentable interior, black/black coupe, 81K miles on the clock.

The big question of course is--what might I find when I try to (very carefully) start this engine up? Is cylinder wall galling /rust a foregone conclusion? What are the odds of engine damage?

Naturally this plays a big part in the offer for the car. If this engine is shot, then IMO we have a '78 SC that's not worth very much considering the current cost of a rebuild.

What would YOU do? Just count on a $25K rebuild? Be optimistic that she will come back to life and only needs extensive detailing, service, tires, brake work, fluids, etc?

Thank you all for your time.

FYI -- you can buy decent ones with higher miles in the low $30Ks, and really nice ones in the high $40Ks.

Forget a battery start, does it crank over by hand if you unscrew the plugs??? Or make a nice screeching noise??? Or you can't crank it over by hand at all???
But I think I prefer the "really nice ones in the high 40Ks..."
Get a couple of those....

LOL. Looks like a bot regurgitating an old post to me...

Replace all rubber
Fuel lines, vacuum lines, oil lines
Remove, clean, refurbish fuel tank
Remove and clean fuel injectors

New oil and filter
Check that all plugs and wires are in place
Remove ignition coil wire
New battery
Crank till you see oil pressure.
If valid oil pressure, add fuel to tank
Crank again for maybe 20-30 seconds
Plug coil wire back in
See if it starts

Thank you for replies so far.

Yes, you really can buy a decent 911SC in the low $30Ks and a nice one in the mid $40Ks! BAT seems to confirm this.

But all that aside, this is going to have to be a "blind buy". Estate will not allow people to manipulate the car. Perhaps I did not make that clear, sorry

Ngrich, here's your pic you skeptic!
