Short shift question...
Friend has a G body car with a 3.2 and a short shift kit. The shift lever appears to be in two pieces...upper is connected to the knob and has the slight bend, then it slides into a lower tube and is glued? The glue joint has come lose and the upper shaft rotates in the lower tube. Is this correct? Are these kits glued together or should the upper shaft be welded into the lower tube?

No experts out there eh?

I think the kit came with glue. It’s been a while and I’m not a fan of short shift kits.

short shift
Thanks Mark. I'm not a fan either, just trying to help out a friend. He can glue, I can weld. Welds USUALLY don't come loose during spirited driving. :D

Is it an original Porsche short shift kit? Don't think so according to that aou're talking about...
I have one in my SC. The kit contains another lever in one piece, here's a howto how to install that original kit: https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_short_shift_tindel/911_short_shift_kit_install.htm Here's a list of available short shift kits: https://www.pelicanparts.com/byv-porsche/c-transmission-clutch_c-shift-linkage_c-short-shift-kits Your friend probably got this one: https://porshop.co.uk/short-shift-kit-911-74-86.html I would expect that the lever is welded, not glued. I bought a short shift kit from Pelican back in the 90's for my 1973. It glued together with epoxy. 30 years later and it's still together.

The factory shifters were epoxied together. Mine was loose allowing the shift lever to rotate. I drilled and tapped it on the forward side for a 4mm screw. Problem solved. —Dave
