bosch h1 headlight trim ring

to the 911 brain trust ... have bosch h1's on my 68 911 and want to switch out trim rings.

three of the h1 trim ring adjusting screw head bolts are out, but look at this fourth guy.*

how does it release?* presently, everything just turns in a circle with no effect.* did a deep google search and nada?

anybody know the trick to unscrewing / releasing this bolt?

thanks in advance, jeff.

That's an adjuster. screw The trim ring is popped off by prying out those metal spring clips between the ring and the housing.

Full disassembly is more complicated.

understand the metal spring clips retaining function - just like on 356s.

what's different is this fourth screw goes through the trim ring and must be disconnected from the adjuster connector to install the new trim ring. during re-assembly, this fourth screw must go through the new trim ring (like the other three screws) and reattach to the adjuster connector. that's my issue - detaching the screw head bolt from the adjuster connector.

thanks, jeff.

got it! after more days deep-dive search, the 912 bb pointed me in the right direction.

on the h1's, the adjusting screw head bolt screws normally into the threaded adjusting cable connector. this connector in addition to normal threading also included some form of adhesive after which the connector final product was crimped.

if you run into my dilemma, simply unscrew the screw head bolt as far as possible, then at the connector base apply heat (electronic candle lighter) and lubricant (wd40). i firmly grasped the cable connector with pliers and with a phillips head screw driver repeatedly turned the bolt back and fourth and it popped out. a little tugging also helped!

ktf, jeff.
