Can't open door from outside

Hello

After restoring the door I can't open the it from the outside.
From inside is no problem.

See pictures, one with door handle pressed and one without.

Thank you Ivan, that makes sense.
The fork must have been bent at some point because it was okay before.

Will traighten and grease it up.
I was just rubbing it with lock oil.

Cheers!

one more idea ..have you tried to close the door lock manually(with your hand)- 2 clicks and than using the door handle to release the door look?

I've used a cam timing pin and drilled out the threads in order to slip it onto the door handle pin, which makes it longer.

On my 3 2 there's adjustment on the rod on the exterior handle. If you take the exterior handle off, the trigger engages with a threaded rectangular nut. Turning the nut makes the rod extend more or less. All of this is in the removable exterior handle assembly

Yes but no difference.

The car was in the body shop and probably little filler and paint on the door side made the handle come out a millimeter.
Also the new gasket might ad a millimeter.

Can't see any adjustments for the pin. But I've done some small adjustments to the fork and think I'm getting there.

The car has many miles and metal contact surfaces rub down with time I guess

yup all this will add up.funny thing i had two guys last month with totally different problem.
They could not close the door properly..only after i have found out somebody have used door handle from later model on theirs where the pin is much longer....had to cut 3mm on the end off....that might be something to look for -pin from later model door handle.
Let me look to show you the difference...

Problem solved

I took both lock assemblies to the vice and bent them straight just a few degrees.
Also put some grease.

Now they open perfectly
