2.2S barrels and pistons in a 2.4T

I've read a bunch (by a bunch I mean too many) threads on putting 2.2S barrels and pistons in a 2.4T and my take aways vary between great idea and not such a great one and have got myself tied in knots.

Nearly all the threads are from the early 2000s not that there's anything wrong with that but has anything changed over time?

Some threads suggest no problems everything is 84mm, no issues with the T cams or MFI pump, put the good stuff in at the pump, modify the ignition curve, some adjustment to the MFI (not sure what though as unspecified).

Some threads suggest 9.8:1 is too far and you need E cams, a new space cam and or engine life will drop off a cliff.

The car in question is a 2.4T with MFI which now has a 123igntion tunable distributor, only run on premium (so that's 97 or higher in the UK / Europe) and the intent is just more for street use and a very occasional few laps at events.

Curious as to the current thinking on the 2.2S barrels and pistons in the above 2.4, upsides downsides and ofnot really as easy as making that change alone.

Any untangling answers gratefully received
