Original trunk carpet- is it lame, or is it just me?

OK, I give up on making 911 trunk carpet look tidy. It always looks like a cheap suit to me. Are there any tricks to improve the fit? And can it be washed without negative effects?

Thanks

Sure is pretty but...

In 1971 I bought a large oak rocking chair as a gift in an antique store in Newport, RI. As I carried it out of the store I realized there was no way I was going to fit it into my 912.

After 5 minutes I had the passenger seat removed by sliding it all the way forward off the rails. Opening the frunk I was amazed to find it fit inside. Those Germans were thinking!

I maneuvered the rocker into the passenger compartment and off I went. That frunk is big for a reason. These are touring cars after all.

I'm surprised there isn't something in between Singer and stock. I agree the trunk carpet is ill fitting.

I recently replaced mine with the aftermarket trunk lining from our host. Now it looks like a new cheap cheap suit, but at least it looks new.

What's under all of that quilting? It sure takes up a lot of potentially usable space...

And yes, original is *lame*.

...same here - I ordered the upscale, higher-priced mat from our host and only two of the snaps aligned with a fixed female on the body. Also had to cut a slit for the hood light switch stanchion....

Not happy - Bill K

I'm real surprised the aftermarket hasn't provided any good options.

A modern-style molded carpet shouldn't be hard, especially since it's 3 separate pieces.

That diamond quilt stuff is real cheap if you don't mind vinyl, so if you're crafty you can get the Singer look for pennies.

Hello There:
In all the years I have had my 911SC..no problems with the truck carpet being washed.
Per the Owner's Manual, use warm water and a little ( mild ) soap with a scrub brush. That look does go away with a little TLC, but hey I am not an expert nor am I wanting it to be as if I will be sleeping in the trunk. LOL
To dry it after washing, keep as flat as possible and there will be no wrinkles. Hope this helps.

Got to admit the Singer trunk is "tidy" looking, but then again it better be for the price, right? (Sorry, I just couldn't resist, and I am glad a company is doing something to preserve our "look" in the 911.)

That's the standard perlon stuff.

Sounds like you need the super luxurious upgrade, still OEM. Option 975 Velour Carpet in Luggage Compartment.

It's a 964, the fuel tank is under there. No space if you take the quilt off...
