Idle on my 3.2 stays high at a light

When I come to a stop light the idle will go high to 1000. Then after a bit it will drop down to correct idle. Sometimes even I can kick the peddle and it will drop down a bit. Idle set correctly with wire at B and C. I lightly sprayed the linkage .idle control valve is new Did the same on old idle control valve . What do you all think ?

Check the set screw on the idle stop setting, and also the cruise control cable can hang up during throttle return.

also check your micro switch and throttle position..with the engine off..push on the throttle a little and you should be able to hear the click on the switch ..on the pic the top one

Had same issue for a while, in particular when engine and trans were warm and it was due to the linkage binding where it is hinged on the side of gearbox. Check this and lube.
One check you can do is when you are at a stop light and the idle is too high, try to reach behind the accelerator pedal and pull towards you to see if that makes the idle drop to normal rpm. If so, this is the linkage related issue.

So I went out and listened for the click in the micro switch. Did not hear. Put in my hearing aids did not hear. Then I sprayed the whole area with contact cleaner and then sprayed it again. I heard the click !!! Car ran well on my test trip and idle stayed correct for my whole trip. But ! When I piled into the garage it was up a bit to 1000. I had the AC on for the last half of the tip. Maybe I need to adjust the base idle down just a bit more.

From what I have been reading , I don’t think I’m going to worry about 1000 rpm’’s after a good drive. Idle is so much better .

Had to fiddle with my pedal to get idle to drop.
Something to check on that will cause the throttle rod to bind up on clutch cable when these two nylon bushings deteriorate after 40 yrs…..(they have better bronze replacements too at PP)

sounds like you got it;-) just turn the idle 1/3 in and you`ll be fine
