930 on it's way...
Hey all,
After a fairly long search, a couple of weeks ago I purchased an 89 930 Coupe. For those that helped with a few questions I had at the time, I appreciate it.... So here's the details: 89 930 Coupe 53k miles White/Tan Matching painted center fuchs K27 turbo Aftermarket exhaust (B&B, I think) Excellent condition in and out, just needs a good detailing and some time at the shop to get it from running rough at start up and from running so rich. It's on the truck and should be here within the next few days. Can't wait!!! One of my first orders of business will be to replace the tires. I was considering SO3 Pole Positions, but read in the archives that the rears (245/45's) looked very narrow relative to other tires. Does anyone know about this? Does anyone with a 930 have this set up? If so, any opinions on the tires (and pics)? Thanks, Shawn |
Stock size in the rear is 245/45-16. They look fine for everyday driving.
I just bought 275/40-17's for the rear (obviously, new wheels required) but they are a bit larger (overall diameter) than the stock set-up. |
I understand what you're saying, but I plan on staying with the stock wheels (at least for now)
What I meant was that the archives said that the SO3's in particular looked narrower than other brands/models tires (of the same size) when it came to the 245's in the rear. Not sure if others agree or not. |
My 245/16 S-03's have a treadwidth of about 8.5" - about the same as the 225's I have in the front.

Chris,
Do you have the 225's on 7 or 8 inch wheels? I have 7's up front and was thinking of putting 225/50's on them. Is this possible/common? If so, will they be clear without rolling the fenders? -Shawn |
I run RE730s on my 930 7x9s (although the wheels are currently on my 911 coupe). These tires compare very favorbaly to the SO2s/SO3s I have run on the 18 inch rims I use for the 930. The RE730s are about half the price though. I have about 10 track days on mine and maybe 15-20,000 street miles and they still look good.

225s in the front are a tigh fit and they tend to "track" more than 205s. SO3s are a good tire. I have recently heard (and tried on someone else's car) michelin pilot sport cup - similar to "R" compound. Really sticky

I have 245 45 16 SO-3s on my 930. They look fine...maybe a little narrower than the RE71s that were on it before. With the tires inside those huge rear fenders, you really won't see the width that much.
I have a set of 18" Fikse FM5s on order because the 245s can't handle all the power and I need more tire/rim width. I'm switching up to Kumho Ecsta MXs...which are supposed to be much more grippy. And they're a lot cheaper than SO-3s to boot! I'll let you know how they feel in a couple weeks when they arrive. |
Shawn,
Is the 930 there yet? When do the car nights start up behind the Wendys on 46? JoeF |
JoeF.
No, it's not here yet. I SHOULD be arriving sometime late today... I'm not sure if they started up yet, as I haven't seen anything about it. But considering it's mid-June, they probably have... Shawn |
Shawn,
Good luck with the delivery. Let us know when the Wendys thing starts up. We should get a few Pelican Heads together and go to a few of those car nights. There are a couple up and down 46 on different nights. I went to a few last year, P-Car representation was light. JoeF |
Thanks...
Maybe I'll go by there in the next day or so and see there are any signs about it. Shawn |
