new to 911 seat question
Hello
I am new to the 911 world as an owner (long time Porsche fan) my wife and I have recently inherited a lovely(to me) 1984 911 Carrera Cabriolet. The seats are however in rough shape and need replaced. I wondered if there was any trustworthy place that sells seat covers and foam to replace these and if this is a DIY or better left to someone else. thanks very much for any help you can give Sean |

Hi Sean. Welcome and congratulations on the new 911.
There are a few places that do great seat covers. They can also install if you like. I have worked with Autos International and had great results. https://www.porschetopsandinteriors.net/ Where are you located? Someone local may be able to help with a local source. DIY is a question about your skills and experience along with your expectation of perfection. Doing it yourself for the first time is possible, but you will likely have some wrinkles etc. If you are OK with that, I feel DIY is most of the reason I have these older cars. Enjoy. -Dave

I sourced leather and foam from lakewell out of Belgium. Excellent quality and excellent fit. I let a local upholstery shop do the work partially because I was living in Brooklyn and had no where to DIY but also because I wanted them to look mint, which they do!

thanks everyone - I do have a local shop that I may still check with - i was not sure if there was a source that may have seat foam with covers or entirely new seats altogether that can be used to replace the existing seats. Being new to the 911 Porsche community, I have much to learn regarding the world of DIY and part sourcing.
I agree Dave, part of the enjoyment (which some may find masochistic) is the ability to dive into a few DIY projects. |

I bought leather seat covers from a company in Oklahoma. They were perfect and didn't need to replace any foam on my 77 911S. Perhaps you don't need to replace foam as well. Mine cost $500 for the covers and paid a local shop $110 to install (I didn't want to screw it up). I did this 12 years ago and they are still perfect. ![]() I'm sure with a good Google search you can find some leather for your seats. Good luck

World Upholstery seems to be a big back end supplier of many places if you want to DIY

Lakewell quality seems very good with plenty of options. Then pay a professional to fit properly

Classic 9 is in Michigan. they do great work and can provide just covers, to the full install. They offer lots of options with custom combos of leather and material options. I did my own install with leather and Pasha cloth inserts.

Reupholstering leather seats DIY is fun. If you do it slow and right you won't have wrinkles. Leather gets heat shrunk to remove wrinkles after its on the seats...just like heat shrinking window tint...only easier.
Here's a full thread on it. DIY Re-upholstery Front Sport Seats kit 85-89 World Upholstery sells very good kits...

In the process of re-doing the seats in my '86 and it is not a terrible job, but I am overdoing it and installing seat heater and coolers, too. So things are taking forever.
But after doing one I am way more comfortable about doing the rest of my cars. It really isn't that hard of a job. Andrew |

I was also very happy with Lakewell. I paid a professional (a lot more than $110) to replace some of the foam and put them on.
