high beam flasher

Here's an odd one.

Patient is a 1979 911 SC, low mileage, very original car, hasn't been messed around with much.

High beam flasher works when the parking lights are on, when the headlights are on, flash to pass, all good.

However, when the headlight switch is fully off, flash to pass simply does nothing.

So, I can't blame it on the switch.

any thoughts on troubleshooting?

Sorry I can't help you .. But I have an odd issue with my '79 high beams as well, although of a different nature. There are times when I can flash highs and push arm forward to go full high beams ... and other times when I can not push the arm forward nor flash the highs. Seems to be a sporadic issue. (don't mean to hijack your thread).

Not sure how to help OP, but many find this thread helpful: https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/248149-turn-signal-switch-quick-fix-pictures.html

Everybody loves closure
Jason. It sounds like a physical problem with your switch. Is the pivot broken of maybe the pin is partially dislodged. Otherwise the reed switches probably need some tweaking.

For my car, I found the red/white wire was not receiving full time power. Only with the headlights on. So I loved the red/white wire to the correct terminal on the light switch.

Problem solved.

Thanks Blucille, and glad you found a solution to your issue.
