looking for previous owner in the USA
Hello everyone.
I have a Porsche 911 2.7 from 1974. It was imported from the USA to Denmark around 2010 I think. I would really like to find out where it has been driven in the US, and maybe find out who has had it. is it possible to find out something like this, who can help? thanks in advance Greetings Martin from Denmark. |

Hi Martin!
You might try using this service, though I don't happen to know how well they do with chassis numbers pre-81. If it does run it should give some interesting info about different times the car was registered and when it changed hands. https://www.carfax.com/vehicle-history-reports/ Last edited by Qtrfoil; 06-24-2023 at 01:13 PM.. |

Carfax does not list previous owner information and does not give any info for pre 17 digit vin's. Try posting the vin number and maybe some pictures here and on other sites like Rennlist and maybe a previous owner might spot the thread and reply.

I wouldn’t advise going through one of those private VIN Search companies due to the fact it’s a 10 Digit VIN. They will tell you they can search it for a fee $ via credit card, then it will come up No Record even though they say they can verify it. You’ll be disputing the service charge for their mistake of misinformation for a week. There must be 17 digits to use these private search companies.
Some earlier posts on the topic came up and mentioned going through Porsche in Germany, at very least you may get where the car was delivered here in the USA. Then it will be a matter of inquiring at that State Motor Veh Dept….some charge a minimal fee to search old records, doing that x50 can get spendy. Long shot…try some Detective 101 you could get lucky. Try to take up the carpeting, the map opockets, door cards, search for old labels on components or aftermarket products, maybe there’s a local receipt, ticket stub stuffed somewhere down in a crevice. For what it’s worth, I stashed copies of my 77 Porsche Warranty page and original owner registration under the seat springs (like a time capsule) should all the documentation ever gets separated by the next stewardship. |

A long shot, but try entering your VIN and year/model into your favorite search engine.

When it was imported in to Denmark and registered they should have used the US title. Have you asked whomever did the importation what document copies they have? My car came to Sweden via Denmark and I have a copy of the California title for that reason

I am in a similar boat with a ‘72 911T imported into Australia around 2009. I believe it may have been exported without engine and gearbox, and therefore can be exported as parts ..??

Hello.
No, I know there is no easy way. I have no data on the car, no service book or data on those who imported it. I bought the car from a dead man's son. He didn't know anything about the car. so now I try to find out as much as possible. It is not possible to use online search for such old VIN numbers Is incredibly happy with the car, it drives several times a week in the summer. stands in an insulated garage in the winter, we salt the roads here in Denmark so it doesn't drive there. I also have it on Rennlist. Think I'll try writing to Porsche Germany, maybe they can help. thanks for your help. |

Unfortunately the fact that vehicle registration is done at the state level, rather than at the federal level as in most countries, makes this a hard task.

I would go back to the importation and customs office in your country. They will have all the records

Back then, I think 50% of Porsches sold in the US were registered in California. You could start there, the odds aren’t bad. And doesn’t appear to be very expensive.

That is a Missouri title.
Personal information is never given out by any vehicle department. You may get some info as to safety and emissions tests related but older cars (1996 and newer are exempt). You can always call them if if you’re concerned about missing emissions equipment to see if vehicle was registered, had valid registration, not involved in any collision or received a “branded” or “salvage” title. I you might be able to narrow down the city and county, from there start with local PCA etc. |

I am fully aware that personal information must not be given out, but imagine if someone could recognize the car. then there is probably some history. Thanks again for all the help |
