Firewall Question and Pic
Does anyone know the purpose of these threaded holes in the engine compartment firewall? Thanks for any help with this

No, but nice engine bay

Thanks, Blown. Anyone know the answer?

I don't know either.
Beautiful job on the engine bay! Looks like even the trailing arms are refinished. It would be a shame to cover up the engine bay with the sound pad. Cheers Bob |
That might be the prettiest engine bay I've ever seen. Wish I knew the answer to your question.

I've seen them in my '74. I think if I recall correctly, they are for two screws that hold the rear interior trim pieces in place. The tie down rings inside the car have two screw mounts each I do know, I've had all of the interior out back there to mount new speakers and rebuild that rear dash. Are you going to put an original engine sound pad back in the engine compartment? I believe you'll find that there is an aftermarket replacement that works as well and is much lighter weight. When I finally get tired of mine crumbling, think its what I'll be doing.

Thanks so much for the kind comments!! It's been a job getting it up to this point. I'll post some more pics when I get a chance.
I would like it better without the sound pad also but I'm getting ready to put it in anyway. After looking at the composition of the new pad I'm convinced that it is for thermal protection, i.e. heat, more than sound. The pad is closed cell foam and only weighs about a pound...It looks like a good insulator but doesn't seem dense enough to attenuate much sound. I sure would like to know what those two threaded hole are for though. |
I will have to check my car when I get home, but on my '73 I think there are ground straps connected at those two points. I have two straps that are not connected to anything. I think they may have something to do with the MFI, which is not installed, and would not be applicable to your car. Maybe the ground straps are for something else.
That is a nice engine compartment by the way. Rob |
Oh man, that's just screaming for blue Carrera scripts and blue centered fuchs! I wish my car was white (and my engine bay looked even remotely close to that). I have some Polaroids of my engine bay with no engine or pad. I'll see if they showed up in the pics when I get home tonight. Don't remember. But, defiantly a great looking engine compartment.
