SS Brake Lines - sizes and fit?

I bought a set of SS brake lines last fall to replace the old ones on my '72. Well, this past week, I figured I'd swap the lines out at the same time I was replacing my 19mm MC (what a PIA that is!).

So I went to install one of the lines last night and the fitting isn't large enough on the new set of lines. I know that these lines (with fittings) fit on an '84 carrera because I had also bought a set for a friend...and he has already installed his set of lines.

Is this just another -customization- that a PO did on my '72? Could it be possible that my car has been modded to accept non-metric (standard) fittings? Should the lines from a carrera fit a '72? FYI, I have S calipers, if that makes a difference.

Any ideas about what I'm dealing with here? Thanks...
