oel gauge flutter

howdy,
This gauge seems to stay pinned to the top side most of the time w/ occasional flutter. I'm assuming that I have a bad sender.? Tell me what you know.

BTW, I stop by this forum a few times a day and am learning a ton.
Thanks,
Rick

The dash oil guage is only to be read when the car is at idle on level ground and at operating temp.

As a general rule, trust of the dash oil level guage is something that it needs to earn. They are notorousely inaccurate.

However, if you check frequently with the dipstick (also checked at idle, engine warm/level ground), so you know how the guage reads you may find yours works fine. Mine does.

And to avoid messes in the future, don't fill the oil to the full line on the dipstick, fill it about halfway between the lines.

I had this problem. You have either a bad sender or a poor connection/wiring. The gauge pegs if there is no signal from the sender. Unplug the sender at the tank, for example, and the gauge pegs.

I had an oil temp gauge go bad such that it was pegged at the top most of the time with a little movement when the engine was warm. That was the sender.

Like Supe said it just may be a bad connection. I wrote about this a few weeks ago and what you can do about it. Go here:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=104785&highlight=sendin g+unit
