Door lock pull pins?
I'm swapping my door cards over to the RS-style ones and looking for a way to delete the (admittedly cool) circular lock knob. I've noticed a number of cars on here that don't have it, but I haven't been able to determine what they do for a longer pull pin atop the upper door garnish. At least, I'm assuming that's how they lock/unlock the car from the inside.

Looks like TeeJay never got his question answered above, and I have the same conundrum. Photo for clarity, anyone know what thread this rod has on an SC?
Rennline makes door lock pins for all our models, and the long ones needed for an F-model are a different thread than for a G model which normally has the shorter pins. 4mm is too small, 5mm too large. Anyone know? ![]()

It's a 5mm thread (M5-0.8) …I put a nut on it to be sure. The original plastic pulls seem tight going on a sample 5mm bolt but that’s probably due to being old plastic compound or inner thread worn.
Rennline aluminum should have proper tolerances. ![]() |

Thanks! This was a big help.
An M5 nut threads on mine rather loosely so something seemed off. But with the long threaded pins should be fine. The long version of the Rennline aluminium pins I have (spec for up through model year 1976) are a smaller thread dimension then on later cars but will not accept an M4 bolt, while an M3 is too small. In any case, I'll drill and tap the Rennline parts out to M5 for my 81.

I've been trying to figure this one out as well. would like to keep the original look though. There's got to be pulls from another vehicle that would work?

My Ford F150 plastic pull pins are 1-5/8” long not certain on the thread size (a loose 5mm) I just tried and they fit onto the 911 threaded rod and a wee bit .5mm thinner O.D. but not noticeable in the opening. So you may get than extra length needed to reach a shorter rod.
They might have these and similar pulls on shelf at most auto parts stores AutoZone etc. Btw…911 pins are about 7/8” long. Here’s some pics - ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
