Help with Instrument lens replacement

Several of the instrument lens in my 1989 911 Carrera have a hazed over look. Can anyone offer some suggestions of ways to replace them? I have noticed replacements dials in several catalogs, but no replacement lens.

To get them out do I just pry out the bezels holding them in? Could I go to home depot and have some optical grade Plexiglas cut to fit the opening? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bud

Can you polish them with Maguires plastic polish system? There are other products recommended on the board that a search will help you out with.

Howdy.

Could you please post a pic? I have a similar problem with my fuel-oil level gauge (gage?) but I would characterize it as delamination and not 'hazed'.

I tried to post a photo of my problem but the file size is too large.

I plan on replacing the oil level component with something useful - a voltmeter.

I went back out and looked at the gauges again. The fuel-oil level gauge does look like it is delaminating and the speedometer looks more hazed over. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Can someone tell me how to remove the bezels that hold the lens covers on without damaging them?

Thanks,
Bud

Bud, Thanks for posting this. I have the same problem with the same guage. I've lived with it for the past 10 years but ready to fix it. Hopefully someone will offer a fix.

Prying the bezel off is tedious at best. YOu have to fold back to straight up a little more than half way around. Pop it off and got o work on your lens. Any glass shop can make you a glass piece, but I would look arond to buy a replacement for less.

When reinstalling, reverse the procedure and use a tool or small roller to bend the lip of the bezel back over the housing. To tell you the truth, I think the big speedo repair houses use new bezels each time, but the old one can be put back at least once and look pretty good.

You will need a collection of very small screwdrivers, knives and maybe other little probing, pushing tools to do this.

The fuel/oil gauge lenses have a plastic cover over the glass which can delaminate and looks horrible. I pulled the plastic off and used Goo-gone to remove the rest of the glue. When reinstalling, cut a thin ring of the plasic to put back in the gauge otherwise the glass will rattle b/c it is now thinner.

North hollywood speedometer will replace your glass and add new bezels for $35 per gauge. Prices may have increased since I did mine so call first.

Thanks Guys. I'll give it a try before sending it out for a professional rescue.
