964 wiring harness issue..

Putting a motor from a manual car in a TIP for my wife. Changed out everything tip related. But the motor harness has a lead off the starter wiring branch for the reverse switch from a manual. The tip gearbox doesn’t have a switch, as I’m sure it gets the reverse light signal from the selector or the tip harness. My question is can I just cap the switch leads, or is there something else I need to consider?

Thanks!

You should be able to just tape/ it cap off and make sure they don't short as I recall one is powered. Also make sure the loose end is secured so it cant reach the cv or axle . To further insure you should go into the (14 pin?)connector on the other end and pull the two wires out of the connector , I had to do the reverse( pun intended). I put a tip motor in a manual 964. Those two wires weren't in the motor harness. I had to add the two wires to the harness that runs to the starter area and run them up to motor plug in the box on the left side of the engine compartment. If I realized it before I installed the motor I could have used a manual harness I had. The reverse switch simply shorts the two wires together essentially jumping one pin in the plug to the other. I haven't looked at the wiring diagram so I assume like you, that power to the reverse lights on the tip is made by the ecu/shifter .

good luck.

That’s what I was looking for! Thanks! there is another small plug on that branch (maybe 1/2 inch, two lead female plug. I’m guessing it has something to do with the g64 from my 89 c4 parts car…. Didn’t pay Mitch attention when I pulled it though.
