front shock replacement

Could use a little guidance here. Replacing my front inserts and ran into a couple of issues.

1. the plastic spacer came broken (bought these two years ago and just now opened them up)

2. KONI kit came with the two rubber mount parts and the bushing.

wrt the spacer:

1. how critical is it? (the ones I am removing did not have them)(also could not find as a part anywhere)
2. looks to me as if I could epoxy it back together and go that route is necessary

wrt to the bushing/rubber mounts:
1. These look to me to be a kit to rebuild the mount. Looked around in PP and KONI and didn't find any discussion on doing this. Conclusion is that either there are some applications where the mounts are rebuildable but mine are not, OR, lets tear mine apart and throw these in the mix.

I have a 78 ROW SC, BOGE struts, KONI sport inserts (KON-8641-1039SPORT)

Well I’m certainly far from an expert as I’m relatively new in the 911 sandbox but I am replacing my inserts now as well with the Koni yellow sports. I am not using the metal sleeve and rubber bushes provided with the inserts. I think these parts are perhaps for a different year model- they do not appear to fit the top mounts of my ‘76 model. I’m using the Porsche factory top strut mounts / rubber isolators. And my plastic bump pad was also broken similar to yours; therefore, I’m not installing it. My original struts didn’t use this piece. Appears to simply be a pad to help protect the bump stop. Hope this helps.

Thanks Tad - appreciate the response. I did read that the plastic piece is to prevent a hydraulic lock in the event of a full travel of the shock - a rare and unlikely occurrence. My original BOGE struts didn't use either so don't know if that is a unique scenario to the KONI inserts or what. I will remove my mounts today to see if they appear to be rebuildable with the pieces provided, if not, order a set.

After further inspection...

Pulled the mounts - unless there is a whole bunch of distortion after assembly, there is no way these two pieces can be used to rebuild the mount - 2 on order through PP!

That leaves the plastic washer question still unresolved.

If its broken not much help if the shock bottoms out. I think it might just be something to wipe the shaft to prevent damage to the seals.
Contact Koni and ask
