3.2 harness

My car is in the shop for harness repair. Was burning and smelling on left side of motor. Had it towed to Porsche shop. Will try to repair harness then find out why it happened in the first place. I’m lucky car did not catch fire.

Yes you were lucky.
Was the engine still working when burning smell was present? If so, the issue may be related to heater, rear window defogger or some other electrical circuit not linked to engine. They are all on left side.

My repair just got worse! Not a bad injector but a leaking intake seal . The bad thing it is on the left side of the motor which is a lot harder. And the really bad thing is I had a complete top end 4 years ago , only 8000 miles put on since. It’s too late to complain to my other San Diego shop. Getting fixed now.

"Leaking intake seal"? Do you mean intake manifold seal, or intake valve seal, or injector seal, or something else?

I think the left side is easier to get off than the right side.

I just went through this with my car, so I took off the complete CIS and cleaned and put a thin layer of silicone sealer on those gaskets, then put it back together. It's a bit of a PITA, but you can remove the complete CIS with the engine in the car. I was not able to get off just one manifold runner at a time because I needed to lift at least that side of the CIS to get enough clearance.

Do yourself a favor and take off the whole thing, then check that the ears on the runners are not bent where they attach to the heads and that the surfaces are flat (go across them lightly with a file), in case someone was ham-fisted and overtorqued the nuts.

Pete, it's a 3.2 EFI, not a CIS.
Nick, it is also quite easy to remove this side, or even both, and replace all gaskets and shims plus a couple of other things. Depends on your wrenching abilities, but mine were near zero and I managed to do it.

Hi. The car is at a shop. They will call today to tell me progress. I got blood cancer two years ago and can no longer do the work.

Still in the darn shop. Said they were super busy from the start. Huge shop. I have never seen so many air cooled cars lined up. Over in a corner was a GT3. We shall see!

Hi. As I said before my car had a new problem with wires melting and burning up in harness and also I have had this terrible mis for over a year could not find the reason. Well , I just picked up the car tonight from the shop and the harness is repaired , took the shop several hours. Said it was a short in the harness , new wires installed and cleaned up. The terrible mis was caused by one manifold gasket that was installed upside down !!! A mistake!!! I never thought to look there because the top end was done in 2020 8,000 miles ago !! I drove the car home from San Diego 49 miles and it is back running great again. So glad. But the shop let me know that the suspension is original and needs work !! Another time ! Also had them change the oil and adjust the idle and CO. End of story for now.
