Front hub flaking metal
I was swapping brake discs on my kit car, which uses F model front hubs (external grease cap, 47mm offset).
I noticed some very odd looking flaking in the aluminum. Not a metallurgist, but guessing the ingot was a bit too cold when it got forged. Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? I have been tracking the hub for quite a while (16K on the car, probably 75% of it track and driving to / from track), no signs of any damage. And I presume it was in service for some time before it ended up on my kit car. Still ...

Some of that is corrosion breaking through the outer hardened surface. I have seen this on many hubs here in the northeast over the years, especially on cars that have sat outside for extended periods of time. It seems water sits in the pocket by the back of the stud when the wheels aren't rotating. The good news is the hubs are pretty robust, I have never seen one fail and that is a pretty mild case.
