Windshield Reservoir Location?
Where should the windshield reservoir location be on a 1973 911 T? It looks like it should be located at the front driver's side of the trunk and should go through the hole in the lip at the front of the trunk. Is this right? Also, should the pump be attached to the side of the reservoir or mounted to the car somewhere?
The car did not have a pump or reservoir when I bought it. I bought a new reservoir and pump from Vertex some time ago, and since my car originally came equipped with air conditioning, it looks like the blower fan that blows air over the front mounted condensor(looks like a condensor) will conflict with this location. Any help would be appreciated. Bill |
Can't say for sure about a '73, but my '88 the pump is just next to the condensor fan against the front of the trunk, and the reservoir is in the front driver's side fender behind the headlight, but being an earlier car I don't know if there was still a battery box to take up that space.

Hello,
My reservior is at the back of the trunk behind the instrument cluster. A bungee cord holds the tank (with the pump mounted on it) in place. I know hte hole you are referring to but my AC Evaporator/fan blocks access to that spot. I'd get a picture of it for you but my car is at the "spa" (my wrench) getting "refreshed", it's vacation should be over in a few weeks. I may be able to get there next week to take a shot if someone doe'nt do it before me. |
Thanks guys.

the location of the resevoir has moved around a bit over the years and can be (if memory serves) different for air conditioned and non air conditioned cars of the same year.
FWIW mine is located in the area you describe, at the front of the trunk, drivers side. There should be a small bracket on the truck floor that the tank slides down, into. There should also be two wires to run the pump.... can't remember the colours offhand.... and the pump snaps onto the side of the tank. |
Early cars will depend on AC or not.
With AC. Located in front of cover to ventilation controls next to gas tank filler neck. It is here since the front condensor motor takes up space. Without AC it will be located up under the front latch panel. The filler neck will stick out the cooresponding hole in the latch panel. My car the pump is mounted on the side of the tank. |
That answers my question. I think Vertex sent me a reservoir for a non AC car. They sent me a short, stubby bottle instead of the long, thin bottle.
Since I have take my AC stuff out of my car, and I don't plan on putting it back in, I think the bottle they sent me will work just fine. I am thinking about cutting out the little panel in the front of the trunk that is shaped for the blower motor that sits on top of the condensor and replacing it with a flat panel. Thanks again!
