alternative Carrera bumper choices
My Carrera doesn't need any more oil cooling than it's got. But it could stand to lose the weight of the accordion bumpers and mounts. I don't like what GT's got, cuz I don't want to be stuck with a non-punchedout punchout for an oil cooler or those Strosek-looking round foglight openings. Can anyone recommend a fiberglass company that makes restrained-looking bumper replacements? Or maybe even someone who'd do custom work.
Thanks |
You also convert to the look of the early cars. Autofam in the UK does this somehow.
|
you should go for the RUF front and rear bumpers.
check this thread, I am hoping to go this way one day... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/94997-ultimate-ruf-conversion-thread.html |
Now that's more like it. How do I lay paws on the RUF stuff?
Yeah, I COULD convert to an early car look, but I've got more post '73 pride than that! *****, we do need our own club. |
Hugh, get the BW parts and ask for the group buy price. I think Brad is still selling them at the group buy price. Call him. His number is in the RUF thread somewhere.

The bumpers are aluminum, and don't weigh all that much. The shock absorbers behind them do. The Euro's have "crush tubes" in-place of the shock absorbers, to save weight.
Faux bumpers have always annoyed me. . . .If it is going to look like a bumper, have it function like a bumper. Otherwise, just slap some big aero-nose (ala 935) on the thing. . . .it will make a nice ramp for the next car that parallel parks in front of yours. |
Where can you get the Euro crush tubes?

Where can you get the Euro crush tubes?
Europe !? Seriously, I think that the dealers here can't get them. . . the PET program shows them in the illustration, but won't give the P/N or decription. I'll guess most any 911 junk-yard in the UK has them cheap. I've been meaning to look in to it for a while now. Can any of you guys on the other side of the pond enlighten us? |

Will ask for the Euro crush type tubes for you guys. You want them new or used ? SmileWavy |
Autofarm in the UK used to offer fibreglass front and rear replacements with hardware that turned the car into an RSR style. Much, much cheaper than an early style conversion. Price of kit was £250 per end a couple of years ago. I don't think it's shown on their website.

On the Euro crush tubes, ideally used - but not "too" used if you know what I mean :-)

I seem to remeber bumper shocks on mine (Euro Car) Odd since nothing else on the car was converted when it was brought over. Will have to look tonight when I get home
How much of a weight savings by going to the crush tubes |
Hmmm, I guess if one didn't like crush tubes or Euro shocks, there's always the possibility of fabricating something even lighter and less safe!
